3 large egg whites, room temperature
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
4 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp vanilla, in all
2 oz of German sweet chocolate
2 tbsp water
1 (8 oz) container frozen whipped topping, thawed

Preheat the oven to 350. In a small bowl, beat the egg whites, salt, and cream of tartar until foamy. Add the sugar 2 tbsp at a time, beating well after each addition. Continue beating until stiff peaks form. Fold in 1 tbsp of vanilla. Spoon into a 9-inch glass pie plate coated with nonstick cooking spray and mold up the sides to form a shell.

Bake 35 minutes, then let cool. In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the chocolate in the water for 30 seconds. Stir until melted, then let cool. Stir in 1 tbsp vanilla and fold in the whipped topping. Spoon the filling into the meringue shell and freeze. Thaw slightly to serve.
