1 cup thinly sliced onions
2 tbsp unsalted butter
1 tbsp olive oil
3/4 cup thinly sliced mushrooms
1 garlic clove, minced
3/4 cup beef broth
1 1/2 tbsp heavy cream
3 tbsp ketchup
1 1/2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce or to taste
1 tsp Dijon-style mustard
1 lg grilled steak, cut into 1/8 inch thick slices
1 long loaf Italian-style bread, halved horizontally and each half buttered lightly then cut into 4 pieces and toasted

In skillet, saute onions in butter and oil, stirring occasionally, until they are crisp and golden. Transfer to paper towels to drain.

In the same skillet, cook the mushrooms and garlic, stirring occasionally, until mushrooms begin to turn brown and transfer the mixture to a plate.

Add the broth to the skilled and deglaze the skillet, scraping up the brown bits. Add the next 4 ingredients, stir in mushroom mixture and steak sliced.

Divide the steak mixture among the bottom bread pieces, sprinkle with onions and top with remaining bread. Serves 4
