2 lb ground chuck
1/2 cup finely chopped red onion
1/3 cup sliced green onions
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
4 cloves garlic, minced
Caramelized onions
2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp oil
2 lb onions, halved and sliced
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp sugar
3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
6 onions sandwich buns, split
In bowl, combine burger ingredients and shape into 6 patties. Place on a large platter and refrigerate at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours. Heat grill. Cook 4-6 inch from heat source. Cook 8-10 minutes, turning once. Serve patties on buns, topped with caramelized onions.
Onions: Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add oil and onions; stir to coat onions with butter mixture. Cover; cook 5 minutes or until onions begin to wilt. Uncover, stir in salt, pepper and sugar. Cook over medium heat 8-10 minutes or until onions are golden brown, stirring occasionally. Add vinegar; stir to scrape up browned bits from bottom of pan. Serve warm. NOTE: Onions can be made up to 2 days ahead; covered and refrigerated.
