1 medium-size cucumber
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tsp Chinese chili sauce, or more to taste
2 tsp sugar
2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
1-2 clove garlic, minced

Wash off the waxed preservative on the skin and cut cucumber in half lengthwise but do not peel. Scrape out seeds and cut into large bite-size pieces. Place in a deep bowl.

In a saucepan, heat remaining ingredients except garlic. Turn off heat and add garlic. While sauce is still hot, add cucumber pieces and allow to marinade until it cools down and then serve.
