1 egg, beaten
1 cup soft bread crumbs
1/2 cup bottled pasta sauce with vegetables and/or herbs
1-2 clove garlic, minced
1/2 tsp. dried rosemary, crushed
8 oz. Italian sausage or pork sausage or ground beef
1 lb. ground beef
2 oz. provolone or mozzarella cheese, cubed
2 tbsp. pasta sauce
2 tbsp. shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
Preheat oven to 350. Combine first 5 ingredients. Remove casings from sausage. Add sausage and ground beef and mix well. Form 2/3rds of this mixture into a loaf. Make 1/2 inch indentations down center of meat mixture. Place cheese cubes in indentation down the middle. Pat remaining mixture over top. Bake, uncovered, for 55-60 minutes and let stand for 10 minutes. Transfer to a platter, drizzle top with 2 tbsp. pasta sauce and sprinkle with shredded cheese.
