Makes about 2-1/2 cups

4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter
2-1/2 cups canned tomatoes, pureed in a blender or food processor
1/4 cup distilled white vinegar
1 tablespoon sugar
3 teaspoons paprika
1 cup finely chopped onions
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons chili powder
1-1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon Tabasco brand pepper sauce
1 teaspoon black pepper

Combine the ingredients in a non-reactive saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring often, for 15 to 30 minutes.
Store in an airtight glass container or jar in the refrigerator if not using immediately.
