3/4 cup butter, room temperature
1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs
2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
Preheat oven to 350. Cream butter and sugar; beat in eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Pour in condensed milk; mixing well. Add vanilla extract.
Sift together dry ingredients and stir into creamed mixture a little at a time, beating well after each additiona. Spread batter in 2 greased and floured 9 inch cake pans. Bake for 25 minutes. Place pans on rack; cook about 30 minutes before removing from pans.
Cut each layer into 2 layers. Spread each of the layers with cream filling. Frost top with chcocolate glaze.
Cream Filling
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
1 cup cold water
3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
1/4 tsp salt
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup heavy cream, whipped
Soften gelatin in cold water in top of a double boiler; stir in condensed milk, salt and eggs. Cook over simmering water for 10 minutes or until mixture thickens. Remove from heat; cool over ice water. Letting mixture cool until it mounds slightly. Fold in vanilla extract and whipped cream. Spoon between cake layers.
Chocolate glaze:
2 (1 oz) squares unsweetened chocolate
1/4 cup butter
2 tbsp milk
2 cups sifted confectioners sugar
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Melt chocolate in a saucepan over low heat. Blend in butter and milk; remove from heat. Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
