1/2 cup butter
1 medium clove garlic, minced
1 envelope onion soup mix
1 (16 oz) can tomato puree
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup white vinegar and chili sauce
5 lbs spareribs, country-style or baby back

Preheat oven to 375. In a saucepan, melt butter and cook garlic with soup mix over medium heat until garlic is golden. Stir in next 5 ingredients. Bring to a boil; simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes.

In a baking pan or broiler rack, arrange spareribs, meaty side up, and bake 20 minutes. Brush ribs generously with sauce, continue baking, meaty side up, brushing occasionally with remaining sauce, 50 minutes or until ribs are done. Serves 6-8
