5 medium potatoes
1/2 tsp salt
2 tbsp butter and flour
1 1/2 cups hot milk
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 clove garlic, minced
Salt and pepper

Topping
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
Paprika

Garnish
Crumbled cooked bacon
Chopped chives

Boil unpeeled potatoes in salted water until tender. Cool slightly. Peel and cut into 1/4 inch slices. Layer slices in a greased 13x9 inch baking pan.

Melt butter in saucepan and stir in flour until smooth. Gradually add hot milk, stirring constantly. Stir in cheeses and garlic until cheese is melted; season with salt and pepper. Pour sauce over potatoes. Sprinkle with toppings. Bake, uncovered, at 350 for 30 minutes or until bubbly. If desired, place under broiler at end of baking time to brown top. Garnish.

NOTE: May be made and refrigerated up to 2 days before baking, but increase baking time to 10 minutes.
