Topping
2 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
2 tbsp butter and sugar
Dash nutmeg

Filling
3/4 cup toasted hazelnuts
1/2 cup sugar
2 tbsp butter
1 egg

Pastry
6 sheets phyllo
1/4 cup butter, melted and cooled

Preheat oven to 325. Saute apples in butter until just tender; stir in sugar and nutmeg; set aside.

Filling: Put sugar and hazelnuts in a food processor and process until well blended. Next, add the butter and egg and process until smooth and creamy. Set aside. Place the first sheet of phyllo in a 9 inch tart pan and brush with some melted butter. Continue until all the phyllo sheets are used. The sheets will hang over the edges of the tart pan. DO NOT TRIM.

Spoon the hazelnut filling into the tart pan and then arrange sautéed apples on top. Fold phyllo sheets over the top and brush with melted butter. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown. When done, remove from oven and place on a cooling rack. Sift powdered sugar over top and cool slightly or completely before serving.
