1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp salt and dry mustard
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 (3 oz) pkg cream cheese, softened
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Combine first 4 ingredients; set aside. In a mixer, cream together butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy. Add 1 cup cheddar cheese; mix well. Gradually add flour mixture, beating just until blended. Divide dough into 2 balls; wrap in plastic and refrigerate at least 1 hour or for up to 2 days. If dough is very firm, allow to stand at room temperature just until soft enough to roll easily.
Preheat oven to 375. On a lightly floured surface, roll each ball of dough into a rectangle approximately 1/4 inch thick. Sprinkle lightly with additional shredded cheese; press gently into dough. Cut dough into strips approximately 1/2 inch wide x 7 inch long.
Holding each strip between thumbs and forefingers, twist strips several times. Bend strips into a horseshoe shape and place on unbuttered baking sheets, pressing ends down. Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand on baking sheet 1 minute and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Store tightly cover in a cool place.
