2 small oranges
3 (3 inch) pieces of cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp whole allspice
2 tbsp butter
24 whole cloves
2 quarts cider
1/3 cup sugar

Cut the peel of the orange leaving as much white as possible. Tie the orange peel, cinnamon, allspices and cloves in a cheese cloth bag.

Squeeze juice from orange to make 1 cup. Combine juice with cider and sugar in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer, covered, for 10 minutes. Remove spice bag. Add butter, carefully pour into a punch bowl. Garnish with orange slices, optional. Serve in mugs with a little peel.
