Ingredients

1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
Oil for frying

Beat the egg with a mixed until light
add the sugar, milk and nutmeg and beat until blended.

Sift the flour, salt, and baking powder together (if you do not have a sifter, use a metal stainer)

Add the flour mixture to the egg mixture.
Stir by hand together until well blended.

Drop by teaspoons into hot oil to deep fry.

Fry until brown. (you might have to turn the donuts over to brown on other side)

Roll in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar or powdered sugar or topping of your choice.

from an American Ladies Group cookbook.
Over the years I have made it many times)
