Ingredients:

1 cup pear nectar
4 T brown sugar
4 ounces Akvavit* liquor
3 T very soft unsalted butter
1/2 t ground cinnamon
1/8 t ground cloves
1/8 t ground allspice
1/8 t freshly grated nutmeg
2 slices fresh or canned pear for garnish

Directions:

In a small dish combine soft butter, cinnamon, cloves, allspice and nutmeg. Divide evenly into two clear glass 8 oz mugs.

In a small sauce pan combine pear nectar and brown sugar. Heat until brown sugar is dissolved and mixture is very hot. Turn off burner and add Akavit liquor.

Pour immediately over butter mixture in mugs. Add slice of pear and serve.

*Akavit (pronounced "Aqua-vit") is a Danish hard liquor that is centuries old and made with caraway seed, fennel seed, star anise, dill seed, corriander seed and a touch of cinnamon. It is used in Scandanavia as a before and after dinner drink and is used in both sweet and savory cooking applications. It is available at most large liquor stores and online. It has a one of a kind flavor and you won't regret spending the 20 dollars.
