Category: Dessert
Prep Time:       Cook Time:       Total Time:

3 cups sliced apples (about 3 medium size apples)
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
Topping:
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 egg, beaten
pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Prepare an 8-inch square pan by greasing with butter, or use a spray; add sliced apples. Sprinkle with the brown sugar and cinnamon.

Put the 3/4 cup butter in medium size mixing bowl. Set aside.

Mix the sugar and flour. (Hint: place flour and sugar in a plastic bag and knead until mixed.) Add to butter and blend well, using a pastry blender. Add the beaten egg and pinch of salt, and mix until thoroughly combined. Batter will be stiff.

Spoon evenly over the apples. Gently spread batter so apples are pretty well covered. Place in oven and bake for 60 minutes; check batter in center; it should be cakelike, not runny.

Best served warm. Top with whipped cream or ice cream.
