2/3 cup yellow cornmeal
1 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder and sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 egg
1/2 - 1 cup milk, depending on how thick you like the coating
1 cup plus 2 tsp vegetable oil
8 hot dogs, already cooked
Measure dry ingredients in 1 bowl and egg, 2 tsp oil and milk. Whisk together until well blended. Add flour mixture to egg mixture, starting by blend half of each. Blend thoroughly. Add remaining flour mixture as well as more milk if necessary and blend.
Press wooden skewers into one end of each hot dog. Dip the batter all around the hot dogs. Set them on a plate until ready to cook. Deep fry in hot oil and let them cook around 3 minutes or until golden brown on all sides. Remove and drain on paper towels.
