1 1/2 cups corn meal
3 tbsp bacon drippings or oil
1/2 cup flour
1 tsp soda
1 egg, beaten
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups buttermilk
Mix all ingredients and pour 1/2 the batter into a greased iron skillet. Then sprinkle with:
1 cup grated cheese
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper and onion
Pour remaining batter over all and bake at 400 for about 35 minutes.
NOTE: This is really good with soup.
