½ tsp salt
½ tsp baking powder
1¾ cups flour
¾ cup sugar (plus sugar to sprinkle prior to baking)
½ cup shortening
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
Green or red decorative sugars & other decorations
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
2. Sift salt and baking powder together with flour.
3. Mix in shortening and sugar with the flour mixture.
4. Beat in egg, making sure it is fully mixed; add the vanilla and stir well.
5. Roll mixture into a log, wrap in wax paper and refrigerate for a few hours.
6. Roll the refrigerated dough out on a flat surface.
7. Cut dough using cookie cutters.
8. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and decorate cookies with decorative sugars.
9. Sprinkle a little sugar on each cookie prior to baking.
10. Bake for 7-10 minutes.
11. Cool before removing from cookie sheet.
