Like Iron Skillet’s Fried Bread
Category: Biscuits & Bread
Plain white bread, Texas toast, or other bread slices
Cut in half crosswise on the straight edge (not diagonal)
Deep oil for frying
It’s best to use a deep-fryer, but a pan with at least 3” of hot oil or Crisco will work. Prepare the bread, cutting each slice in half and setting close enough to reach. When the oil is hot, fry one or two pieces at a time, depending on the size of your fryer, and fry until crisp and brown on both sides. You’ll probably want to turn them several times for even cooking. Remove immediately and drain on towels. Drain again if you can, these puppies are greasy!
Serve as you would croutons with salad or soup.
