1/2 cup of shortning or butter
1-1/2 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla
2 eggs
2-1/4 sifted all purpose flour
2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons milk
berries (strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries) in their own juice.
preheat oven 375 degrees.
Cream butter and sugar. Add vanilla, eggs.
Sift dry ingredients together. Aternate adding dry ingredients and milk to creamed mixture. Bake in 9 inch square pan at 375 degrees for 25 mins. or until skewer in center comes out clean.
Cool for 30 minutes add berries. Add whipped topping if desired.
