***Basic Mix***

  • 2 cups nonfat dry milk powder
  • 1 cup corn starch
  • 1/4 cup beef bouillon powder
  • 2 tablespoons dried onion flakes
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder

***Chili Mac***

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup uncooked macaroni pasta
  • 2 cans (15 ounce size) chopped tomatoes, drained
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder

***Beef Stroganoff***

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups uncooked egg noodles
  • 1/2 cup sour cream

***Potato Beef Casserole***

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 3/4 cups water
  • 6 small potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup frozen mixed veggies

***Quick Lasagna***

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 can (16 ounce size) tomato sauce
  • 3 cups broken uncooked lasagna noodles
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese

Prepare the basic mix by combining the dry milk powder, cornstarch, bouillon powder, onion flakes, basil, thyme, pepper, parsley, and garlic powder. Mix well and store in an airtight container. Add 1/2 cup of the basic mix to any of the flavor variations.

To prepare the hamburger helper:

For Chili Mac: Brown the ground beef in a deep skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease. Add the water and 1/2 cup basic mix and stir until the mix is dissolved. Add the pasta, tomatoes, and chili powder. Bring to a simmer. Cover the pan and let cook for 20 minutes or until the pasta is tender.

For Beef Stroganoff: Brown the ground beef in a deep skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease. Add the water and 1/2 cup basic mix and stir until the mix is dissolved. Stir in the egg noodles. Cover the skillet and let cook for 20 minutes or until the noodles are tender. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the sour cream.

For Potato Beef Casserole: Brown the ground beef in a deep skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease. Add the water and 1/2 cup basic mix and stir until the mix is dissolved. Add the potatoes and vegetables. Cover the pan and let simmer for 30 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. Remove the lid and let the sauce simmer until thickened.

For Lasagna: Brown the ground beef and onion in a deep skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease. Add the water and 1/2 cup basic mix and stir until the mix is dissolved. Add the tomato sauce and broken lasagna noodles. Cover the pan and let simmer for 15 minutes or until the pasta is cooked. Stir in the Parmesan cheese then sprinkle the Mozzarella over the top. Remove the pan from the heat and cover. Let stand for 5 minutes or until the cheese has melted.
