1/2 cup butter, melted
1 1/4 cups sugar
6 large apples, peeled,cored and halved
1/2 pkg. frozen patty shells, 3 shells, defrosted

Place melted butter and sugar in an 8 x 2 1/2 inch round baking pan. Arrange apples, cut side up, in attractive fashion in pan. Simmer apples over medium heat until syrup is golden in color, about 45 minutes. Stack patty shells and roll them out to an 8 inch circle.

Place dough over apples, pierce crust with tines of a fork and bake in a 400 degree oven for 30 minutes or until crust is golden. Invert tart on serving platter. With a spatula, arrange apples, if some have fallen away.

Serve with a dollop of whipped cream. Natural is very good, too.
Serves 6 to 8.
