- 1 small orange, washed but unpeeled
- 10 whole cloves
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 quarts apple juice
- 1 pint cranberry juice
- 1 teaspoon aromatic bitters
- 1 cup rum
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon whole allspice
Press the cloves into the unpeeled orange. Set aside. Combine the sugar, apple juice, and cranberry juice in the crock pot. Stir well to dissolve the sugar. Add the bitters, rum, cinnamon sticks, and allspice. Stir gently then place the clove-studded orange in the middle. Cover the crock pot and cook on high heat for 1 hour. Reduce the heat to low then cook for 4-8 hours or until ready to serve. Remove the orange, cinnamon sticks, and allspice from the crock pot. Serve hot. You can garnish individual mugs of wassail with a cinnamon stick if desired.
