Category: Chilled Appetizers
Prep Time:       Cook Time:       Total Time:

Makes 2 1/2 dozen.

1 12-oz. pkg. fresh or frozen cranberries
1 tangerine, peeled and seeded
1/2 c. red wine vinegar
1/4 c. chopped shallots
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/4 c. chopped seeded jalapeno peppers
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 20-inch baguette, cut into 1/4-inch slices
1/2 c. butter, melted
1 8-oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/2 lb. shaved deli-style smoked turkey

Place cranberries and tangerine in a food processor or blender; cover and process until coarsely chopped. Set aside.
In a small saucepan, bring vinegar and shallots to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes, or until mixture is reduced to 1/3 cup, stirring occasionally.
Stir in the sugar, jalapenos, pepper and reserved cranberry mixture. Cook for 5 minutes over medium heat, stirring frequently.
Transfer to a small bowl; refrigerate until chilled.
Preheat broiler. Place bread on ungreased baking sheets; brush lightly with melted butter on both sides. Broil for 1 to 2 minutes on each side, or until lightly browned.
Spread each slice with 1 1/2 teaspoons cream cheese; top with turkey and 1 tablespoon cranberry mixture.
