1/2 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 cups flour, sifted
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
Mix first 4 ingredients thoroughly. Combine dry ingredients and stir into creamed mixture. Form in a roll 2 1/2 inch across. Wrap in waxed paper and chill until firm. Preheat oven to 400. Slice the cookie dough into 1/8 inch slices and place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
