Mama's Cabbage

- 1 small head cabbage
- 1/2 cup water
- 4 tablespoons corn oil
- salt, to taste
- black pepper, to taste
Remove and discard the tough outer leaves of the cabbage. Coarsely chop the cabbage. Bring the water to a boil in a deep skillet. Add the cabbage and oil. Cover the skillet and reduce the heat to a simmer. Let cook for 15 minutes or until the cabbage is soft. Drain off any excess liquid in the skillet and cook for 1-2 more minutes to cook off any remaining liquid. Season the cabbage with salt and pepper. Serve immediately.
