  • 2 granny smith apples, or honeycrisp or braeburn
  • 2 cans (8 count size) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 can (12 ounce size) Mountain Dew, Sprite, or 7-up
  • ground cinnamon, to sprinkle

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x13 baking dish.

Peel the apples and remove the core. Cut each apple into 8 wedges.

Unroll the crescent dough onto a flat work surface and separate the dough along the perforations.

Place one wedge of apple on each crescent roll triangle at the end. Roll up the dough as if making crescent rolls, completely covering the apple wedges. Place the rolls in the prepared baking dish.

Add the butter to a saucepan over medium heat. Add the sugar and vanilla and stir gently until the sugar dissolves in the melted butter.

Pour the butter mixture evenly over the apple dumplings in the pan.

Carefully pour the Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan being careful not to wash the butter mixture off the dumplings.

Sprinkle the tops of the dumplings lightly with cinnamon. Place the baking dish on the oven and bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes or until the crescent roll dough is cooked and the sauce in the dish is bubbly.

Serve the apple dumplings warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
