Prep Time: Cook Time: Total Time:
1 cup shortening
4 teaspoons salt
4 cups warm water (not too hot)
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 pkts. yeast
About 12 cups of flour, or enough for a very soft dough
Dissolve yeast in water with sugar. Let set about 5 minutes to "feed" the yeast. Then add everything else and knead until well-blended. I use my mixer with dough hook. Cover with clean towel and let rise for one hour.
Punch down or work with dough hook for a minute. Let rise for another hour.
If you're using the mixer you'll need to put the dough onto a large floured dough board, punch down once more. Form into large dinner rolls - about 2 dozen, and let rise another hour.
Bake at 350 in a preheated oven until lightly brown on top and completely done in the center; about 20 - 30 minutes.
Use butter liberally... these are not for dieters anyway so go ahead and enjoy them right!
NOTE: You may use 2 or 3 cups whole wheat flour instead of white flour.
