Prep Time: Cook Time: Total Time:
Either Lydia Josselet Turnbow, or Granny Vice Ann Carter Turnbow
I got it from the Josselet family cookbook and it does not clarify.
1 pint butter (not margarine)
1 1/2 cups sugar
About 5 cups sifted flour
Cream the butter and sugar, then the flour. Knead the dough. Pat out on board, making it about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into shapes, usually cooks make circles or triangles. Pierce slightly. Bake -at- 320 for about 20 minutes. Sprinkle with sugar before cooling.
Family note: The Turnbow name is an anglicized bastardization of the Scottish Turnbull, so our family’s roots are Scottish rather than English. It makes sense that the family would bring a Scotch shortbread recipe with them.
