Makes about 4 dozen

1 cup milk
1/2 tsp salt
1 beaten egg
3 cups plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
4 Tbsp soft margarine
2 cups peeled and coarsely chopped apples
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 orange, rind and juice
oil for frying
powdered sugar

Mix all ingredients well, except for oil and powdered sugar. Preheat cooking oil to 350 F. Drop by tsp full and cook until golden brown, turn to brown evenly. Drain off on a paper towel. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
