Serves/Makes: 6
Ready in: < 30 minutes
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can (8 ounce size) tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 6 sandwich buns
Combine the ground beef, bell pepper, and onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until the beef is no longer pink and the vegetables are soft. Drain off any excess grease. Stir the brown sugar, dry mustard, salt, and pepper into the beef mixture. Add the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and vinegar. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat to a simmer. Let cook at a simmer, covered, for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve the sloppy joe mixture on soft sandwich or hamburger buns with any additional toppings as desired.
