Wilted Lettuce

4 to 5 slices bacon
5 to 6 cups packed torn leaf lettuce
6 slender green onions, chopped
1/4 cup buttermilk

Cook bacon in skillet until crisp. Drain on paper towels. Crumble bacon; reserve. Reserve 1/4 cup of drippings in skillet.
Combine lettuce and green onions in a warmed serving bowl.
Heat reserved 1/4 cup bacon drippings over medium-high heat until quite hot. Remove from heat and immediately add buttermilk. Swirl around in pan to mix.
Immediately pour hot dressing over lettuce mixture; toss to blend. Sprinkle crumbled bacon on salad. Serve at once.
