Butter Meltaways

1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
additional sugar

In a mixing bowl, cream butter, oil and sugars. Add egg and vanila. Combine flour, baking soda and cream of tartar; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Chill for several hours or overnight. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2-in apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Flatten with a fork dipped in flour; sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350 for 13-15 minutes or until lightly browned. Cook on wire racks.
