Grandmas Sugar Cookies

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
grated lemon rind
1/2 tsp nutmeg
2 eggs, beaten
2 Tbsp milk
2 cups flour
1 Tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
salt

Cream sugar and butter together. Grate lemon rind (about half) over this mix. Beat eggs and add milk. Add this to sugar mixture. Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg. Add this then to the sugar mixture.
Make balls of dough and press with bottom of glass that you keep dipping in sugar to coat the glass bottom. May use colored sugars.
Bake at 350 degrees on a greased cookie sheet for 10-12 minutes or till slightly brown around the edges.
Makes 24 cookies.
