State Fair Bread (white)

4 cups flour (more or less as needed)
2 pkg yeast
3 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup butter
1 egg
may add your favorite herb in mixture or top

Mix 1 cup flour, sugar, salt and yeast (and herbs if using)
Warm the milk, water, butter to 120 degrees.

Add the liquid mixture to the dry mixture. Stir; add egg. Mix well. Add flour, one cup at a time, until dough is easy to knead. Knead for 7-8 minutes until shiny; place in a greased bowl and turn dough over so all is coated. Cover and let rise until double; approximately 1 hour. Punch down and shape into a braid or place in large greased loaf pan.
Let rise until double and bake at 350 degrees for 22 min. or until golden brown. Brush top with melted butter.

Serves 8
