Spicy Italian Chicken with Sausage, Peppers and Onions

3 T. oil
8 oz. sweet Italian sausage, casing removed
2 lb. bone in, skin on chicken breast, cut crosswise
salt and pepper
1 onion, sliced thickly
1 red pepper, cut into 1/4 inch strips
4 pickled hot cherry peppers, cut into 1/4 inch strips
3 garlic cloves, minced
2 t. sugar
1/3 c. plus 2 T. white wine vinegar
3/4 c. + chicken broth
1 t. cornstarch
1 t. fresh thyme leaves, minced
1 t. fresh parsley, minced
Brown sausage and set aside. Wipe skillet and brown seasoned chicken in oil over high heat and set aside. Saute onion and peppers; add garlic and cook 30 seconds. Add sugar, vinegar and broth and bring to boil. Return sausage and chicken to skillet and place in 350 degree oven and cook until thermometer reads 160 degrees, 20 minutes. Combine cornstarch, thyme and 1 T. chicken broth. Remove chicken and sausage to serving platter thicken sauce and spoon over chicken.
