Easy Beer Bread

Category: Recipes

3 cups self-rising flour
3 tbsp granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups (12 ounces) beer

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix flour and sugar in a large bowl and make a well in the middle of the flour. Slowly pour in the beer and mix with with a spoon until just combined. Dough will be sticky and wet, but should still hold together enough to lift out of the bowl. Add a little more flour if needed to bring the dough together.

Without kneading, place dough in a 9"x5" loaf pan (8"x4" will also work in a pinch) and place in the middle of the oven. If baking multiple loaves, rotate them halfway through baking. Toss a few ice cubes onto the very bottom of the oven if you want a softer crust, but do not open the door or you will let out the steam. Bake for 45 minutes, then lightly coat the top with melted butter or sprinkle with cheese and bake for 15 more minutes or until fully cooked. Bread should sound hollow when tapped. Let rest for a few minutes and turn out of the pan to cool.

Try any kind of beer you like. Some breads will taste and smell more like beer than others, and some will be more crumbly or sliceable.
