- 3 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/3 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Combine the butter, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a large bowl. Beat to a spreading consistency with a mixer, adding extra milk as needed to get the desired consistency. One batch makes enough for an 8 or 9-inch layer cake. You can double the recipe for a 9x13 cake.
