Canadian Brown Sugar Oatmeal Scones

- 3 cups uncooked oatmeal
- 3 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 sticks cold butter or margarine
- 1/4 cup cold water, or as needed
- butter, to serve
- jam, to serve
Mix all dry ingredients in order listed . Cut in the shortening as for pie pastry. Add enough cold water until a pliable dough consistency. Roll 1/2 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut into desired shapes. Place on ungreased baking sheets an inch apart. Bake at 400 degrees F until golden, about 20 minutes. Serve warm with butter and jam. Oatmeal makes these dense and the brown sugar sweet.
