- 1 package (8 ounce size) dry elbow macaroni, cooked and drained
- 3 cups shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 1/2 cup milk
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- freshly ground black pepper, optional
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 2-quart baking dish. Place 1/3rd of the cooked pasta in the bottom of the baking dish. Sprinkle with 1/3rd of the cheese. Repeat with another layer of pasta and cheese. Top with the remaining pasta. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth. Pour over the macaroni. Cover the baking dish with foil and place in the oven. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes. Remove the foil cover and sprinkle the pasta with the remaining cheese. Cover again with the foil and let stand for 10 minutes or until the cheese has melted. Serve hot.
