Category: Steaks - Beef
3 cups white wine
1 cup water
2 thinly sliced onions
2 cups sliced carrots
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tsp minced parsley
1/2 tsp thyme
1 bay leaf
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
6 lb sirloin steak
2 tbsp oil
1 cup beef broth and tomato sauce
3 tbsp cornstarch and water
In a bowl, combine first 11 ingredients. Place steak in a large bowl and pour the marinade on top. Cover tightly and refrigerate overnight. Remove the meat from the marinade and pat dry. Heat oil in a heavy skillet and brown the meat on all sides. Drain; reserving marinade.
Put the meat in a baking pan and pour broth, tomato sauce and the marinade on top. Cover and bake at 325 for 2-3 hours, or until the steak is done. Remove the meat from the pan and strain the juices. Mash the onions and carrots. Dissolve the cornstarch in the water and stir the cornstarch mixture and mashed vegetables into the juices and cook until thickened.
