PECAN SPICE COOKIES

1/2 cup shortening/butter mix
1 1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 egg
1 3/4 cups flour (sifted)
2 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/3 cup pecans (chopped)
50 pecan halves (garnish)

Mix shortening, brown sugar, and egg. Blend in remaining ingredients. Stir in nuts
Roll dough into 1 inch balls. Place about 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet
Bake at 375 F for 10 to 12 minutes. Cool on sheet for several minutes, than transfer to wire rack.
