BEEF & PORK CHILI

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 lbs ground beef
1 lb ground pork
1 1/2 cups chopped onion
1 cup chopped green bell pepper
2 cans (15 ounce) red kidney beans
2 cans (16 ounces) diced tomatoes
1 can (6 ounce) tomato paste
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
1 cup water

In an 8-quart pot over high heat, combine oil, ground beef and pork, onion and bell pepper. Cook and stir for 12-15 minutes until meat is browned and vegetables are tender. Add beans, tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic, chili powder, salt, red pepper and water. Reduce heat to medium, cover and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to simmer, cover and continue cooking for another 20 minutes. Serve hot with crackers, bread sticks or garlic bread. Serves 6-8.
