DULCE DE LECHE COFFEE

Category: Beverages and Cocktails

6 ounces fluid dulce de leche *See Cook's Note
4 cups strongly brewed good coffee
1 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons sugar
6 tablespoons grated chocolate

Add the dulce de leche to the very hot coffee; stir until dissolved and combined. Keep hot.

Combine the cream with the sugar and whip until stiff. Divide the coffee/dulche de leche mixture among six glasses. Top with a heaping tablespoon of whipped cream and grated chocolate.

Notes: This is also good with a shot of kahula put into each coffee cup before pouring in the coffee.

Dulce de leche is sold in the Hispanic aisle of supermarkets, or in Hispanic specialty markets. It is sold in solid 15-ounce blocks, or in cans or bottles in more of a liquid form.

Making your own dulce de leche:
3 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

Remove label from the cans. Stand the cans in a saucepan and add water to cover. (Note: Do NOT open or puncture the can in any way prior to cooking.) Bring the water to a gentle simmer and keep it there for 3 hours, adding water as needed to keep the cans submerged.

Allow the cans to cool before opening. The milk will have transformed into a smooth, creamy, caramel-colored sauce, dulce de leche!
