PORK STEAKS CACCIATORE

4 pork blade steaks, cut 1/2 - 3/4 inch thick
1 tbsp shortening
1 cup sliced onion
1 tsp salt and basil
1/2 tsp oregano
1 lb canned tomatoes
1 medium-size green pepper cut into strips
Cooked noodles
Grated parmesan cheese
Brown steaks on both sides in shortening. Remove from skillet, drain off fat. Add onion and garlic to skillet, heat thoroughly. Return steaks to skillet. Sprinkle with seasonings. Add tomatoes and their juices. Cover and cook over low for 35-45 minutes or until meat is tender. Add pepper strips during last 15 minutes of cooking. Serve with hot buttered noodles and sprinkle with cheese. Serves 4-6
