EASY SAUERKRAUT
Category: Sauerkraut
4 slices bacon, diced (optional)
1 (1 lb. 11 oz) can sauerkraut, drained
1 head cabbage, chopped
1 large onion, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tbsp butter
1 tsp sugar or brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
In small skillet, cook bacon, saving drippings. In crock pot, combine sauerkraut, cabbage, onion, butter, sugar, salt and pepper. Pour cooked bacon and drippings over all. Cover and cook on LOW for 3 to 5 hours. Note: I like to serve this with brats. Cooking it like this takes away some of the sourness.
