MAPLE SAUSAGE APPLE BRAID

1 (16 oz) pkg maple flavor breakfast sausage
1/4 cup maple syrup
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup sliced green onions
1 1/2 cups dry herb stuffing mix
2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
1 (17 1/4 oz) pkg pkg frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
2 egg whites, beaten
1 tbsp water
4 tbsp sesame seeds

Preheat oven to 400. In large bowl, combine sausage, syrup, eggs, green onions, apples and stuffing mix. Set aside. Roll out each pastry to an 18 x 12-inch rectangle. Place pastries on large, ungreased cookie sheets. Spoon half sausage mixture down center of each pastry.

Make 3 inch cuts at 1-inch intervals on sides of pastries. Fold one strip at a time, alternating sides, until the filling is enclosed. Fold both ends under to seal. Beat egg whites and water together; brush mixture over braids. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake at 400 for 25 to 30 minutes or until brown, rotating pans halfway through baking.
