STRAWBERRY CHOCOLATE TRIFLE

1 yellow cake mix
1 cup water
1/3 cup oil
3 eggs
1 (6 serving) pkg chocolate pudding, not instant
3 cups milk
4 cups sliced strawberries
1 (8 oz) container whipped topping
Heat oven to 350. Grease a jelly-roll pan. In a large bowl, combine first 4 ingredients and beat until moistened. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed and pour batter into pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Cool completely.
In a saucepan, combine pudding mix and milk. Stir with whisk until combined. Cook, over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil and thickened. Remove from heat and cool for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Cut cake into 1 inch pieces and place half in bottom of a large glass bowl. Pour over half the cooled pudding and place half the strawberries on top. Repeat layers. Top with whipped topping.
