SOUR CREAM APPLE SQUARES

2 cups flour and packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup chopped nuts
1-2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
2 cups finely chopped, peeled apples

Preheat oven to 350. Combine first 3 ingredients and beat at low speed until crumbly. Stir in nuts and press 2 3/4 cups crumb mixture in bottom of an ungreased 13x9 inch baking pan.

To remaining mixture, add cinnamon and next 5 ingredients; mix well and add apples. Spoon evenly on base. Bake for 30-40 minutes. Cut into squares and serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
