HAM STEAKS WITH FRESH PEACH CHUTNEY

Category: Ham

1 pound ripe peaches, peeled and chopped, or nectarines, chopped
1/2 cup finely chopped peeled and seeded cucumber
1/2 cup orange juice
1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
1 tablespoon finely snipped fresh mint
1 tablespoon tequila
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons tequila
2 1- to 1 1/4-pound cooked ham steaks, cut 1/2 inch thick
1/4 teaspoon finely shredded orange peel

For chutney, in a medium bowl, combine peaches, cucumber, 1/2 cup orange juice, red onion, mint, the 1 tablespoon tequila, salt and pepper. Set aside.

For marinade, in a shallow glass dish, combine 1/2 cup orange juice and the 2 tablespoons tequila. Set aside 1/4 cup of the orange juice mixture to serve with the ham.

Add ham steaks to the remaining marinade in dish. Marinate at room temperature for 10 minutes, turning once. Remove ham; reserve marinade.

For a charcoal grill, grill ham on the rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium-hot coals about 8 minutes or until heated through (140F), turning and brushing once with the reserved marinade halfway through grilling. (For a gas grill, preheat grill. Reduce heat to medium-high. Place ham on grill rack over heat. Cover; grill as above.) Discard any remaining marinade.

Cut ham into serving sized pieces. Pour the reserved orange juice mixture over top of ham. Serve with chutney. Makes 6 servings.
